I have always loved eating, there is little to nothing that I wont eat or at least try. Growing up I was always relatively thin. There was little to no work that I had to put into my weight, but when I went away to college I was faced with the trials and tribulations of weight gain. I gained the freshman fifteen, and was now faced with the challenge of changing my lifestyle. While away at school I was studying to be a journalist, but it wasn't until I had to make these healthy choices that I found my passion in food.
At first it was hard, I had to adjust my eating habits, find time for the gym and cut down on my social outtings. Although the idea seemed nearly impossible I made it work. Even though I wasn't fat, I didn't feel comfortable with it and was unhappy so I made the right choices to better my health. This was the moment that I changed my major from journalism to dietetics.
I have found a true love for food and its affects on the body. It doesn't only interest me, but teaches me something new about the world and myself everyday. I take an interest into what I eat because I think that you need to set the example, especially in this field. I try to workout 3-4x a week, drink plenty of fluids and eat as healthy as I can. Although I am health conscious I also dont deprive myself of those once in a while cravings or snacks that I think are very important to indulge in.
Now studying dietetics in New York, I have about a year left to go and am so anxious to become a dietitian. I am involved in many things that can further my career right now like being the Vice President of my Student Dietetics Club, writing this blog, interning for a governmental agency in the nutrition department and created a program for high school athletics: The "Change-Up" program. I have hopes of combining my love for food and sports one day and become a sports dietitian like two of my role models: Leslie J. Bonci and Cynthia Sass, working for professional sports teams and universitites.
Thanks to my family, friends and amazing boyfriend for all of their support and love!
